A conveniently situated space on the corner of 13th Avenue NE & University Avenue NE, nordeast yoga offers a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the vibrant neighborhood below. Owner Annie Hanson has moonlighted as a bartender in Northeast for years, and has always held this special part of town in her heart. When the chance to open a yoga studio came her way, Annie, a 500 hour eRYT (Registered Yoga Teacher/Trainer) and full time instructor, was thrilled to be able to reach out to a community of friends, fellow service industry pals and business owners. 

nordeast yoga proudly offers a wide variety of styles and levels of yoga to an audience that is equally diverse. No gimmicks, no break-the-bank membership dues, no fancy yoga pants required. Good old fashioned fun, affordable and approachable classes allow you to truly come as you are.
nordeast yoga is an independent, neighborhood yoga studio located in the heart of the Minneapolis Northeast Arts District. Small, community based classes with a diverse group of teachers & styles and a relaxed, light-hearted approach make this the studio for every yogi!
Vinyasa Flow: This class incorporates the rhythmic parts of vinsaya flow, linking our breath and movement with moments of stillness. Postures will build strength and flexibility and cultivate stillness in your body and mind. All levels welcome, the instructor will provide support for individuals new to yoga and the more experienced yogi.

Aaaah, yes. You mean we might not even stand up? That’s right friend, this class is conducted entirely down on the mat. An absolutely delectable deep stretch class, this will be the best hour of your day. Rooted in the disciplines of Yin and Restorative Yoga, this session will target the seemingly impenetrable connective tissues of the body, muscle groups and spine. Complete with extended savasana, it’s the total chill out package. ​

Considered to be the granddaddy of all vinyasa, flow and power yoga styles in the west, this is the prototypical practice for traditionalist yogi.  In the astanga vinyasa system, postures are linked together by flowing movement (vinyasa).  The joining of vinyasa with gaze (drsti), breath (pranayama) and energy (bandha) is a powerful discipline for cultivating physical, mental and spiritual health.  The practice cleanses, stretches and strengthens the body as well as focuses and calms the mind.  Astanga vinyasa yoga is different from many yoga classes in that the order of the postures is completely predefined. A practice will comprise four main parts: an "opening sequence," one of the six main "series", a back-bending sequence, and a set of inverted asanas, referred to as the "finishing poses." Practice always ends with savasana.  The well-rounded nature of this 90 minute astanga vinyasa will leave you feeling deeply satisfied. If you have no idea what any of this means, don’t worry just come. You will find out…and you will love it…most of the time.

You haven't had a truly lazy Sunday until you've finished it off with some sleepy yin. If chilling super hard is your thing, you're gonna wanna make time for this. Join us as we put our bodies in lazy, low-to-the-ground shapes for several minutes at a time. We move slowly from pose to pose, listening to our breath and thoughts with a deep sense of acceptance. You'll leave feeling taller, more spacious and ready for a good night's sleep before the new week. All levels welcome. Donation based drop-in class.

Sleepy Sunday Yin

Yin Yoga is a quiet and simple practice, but not necessarily an easy practice. Yin yoga works deeply into our body. It targets our deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues — ligaments, joints, bones, and the deep fascia networks of the body — rather than the muscles. It also brings in the practice of meditation and contemplation, and when these things are combined, they create a deep and rewarding practice that helps reduce signs of stress. The poses are held for several minutes, and you are encouraged not to use your muscles; making it a natural complement to “yang” styles yoga- such as vinyasa, Astanga.

Hi Annie,

First, I just need to say how much I enjoy your teaching. I leave your classes always feeling stronger, relaxed, and confident. I have chronic pain and have struggled with it for many years. After many doctors appointments, it has been assumed that I likely have fibromyalgia.  So, why am I telling you all of this? I feel like the space you create allows me to be me and do what I can at that day and at that time without guilt or judgement. Your class gives me a place to balance my fine line of not doing enough or too much and feel comfortable doing so. Also the options you provide have really improved my courage and confidence. At first I thought I could not possibly attempt them for fear I would set off my body. But now, slowly but surely, I am so close to a handstand!

I just wanted to thank you for giving me a space to learn that meeting myself where I am that day is enough. It has made a huge difference with my pain management.   The healing properties of yoga are pretty amazing-whether spiritual, mental, or physical. I have been working on expressing my gratitude lately and your teaching is definitely something I am thankful for.
